Today I want to show you how I nature journal from start to finish, to give you a better idea of my process which is very simple. Join me as I sketch a twig of the European Turkey Oak.
Let me know if you give it a go too. What’s the first thing you see when you step outside and look around for something to sketch?
If you aren’t ready to start sketching, maybe begin by noticing possible drawing objects all around you. And getting your supplies ready.
One little step at a time. 🙂
Thank you for watching and happy journalling!
Excerpt:
It was a very wet and gloomy day and we were on holidays in our camper van and I decided to just make use of the day and draw something in my nature journal.
So I took out my pencil case, I made this myself a few years ago. So all I needed was a pencil, a few black pens and my Windsor and Newton Travel Kit Watercolours and of course my nature journal.
I found a few oak leaves outside that I just picked up from the ground and I decided to draw them.
They’re not really native to Ireland, but still they’re growing here and I decided to find out more about them.
So first I took my pencil and started to roughly get the shape of the leaves.
When I first draw the outline of something with a pencil, it doesn’t have to look good at all. It’s just really about getting an idea for the shape of the thing I’m drawing. Later I’m going over it with a black pen anyway. I don’t always do that, but I decided to do that today.
This first step might take around 5 to 10 minutes. You just get an idea and roughly sketch the shape…
