Here’s a simple baby hat pattern for 5mm (US 8) knitting needles. This pattern is easy to follow and can be made with aran / worsted weight yarn. It’s perfect for beginners, and you’ll be using two straight needles.

Simple Baby Hat Knitting Pattern (Using 5mm Needles)
Materials:
- Yarn: Aran / Worsted weight yarn (approx. 50g)
- Needles: 5mm (US 8) straight knitting needles
- Tapestry Needle: For sewing the seam
- Measuring Tape
- Scissors
Size:
- Fits baby 0-6 months (adjustable for larger sizes)

- Stockinette Stitch: (Knit 1 row, Purl 1 row)
Gauge:
- 18 stitches x 24 rows = 10 cm / 4 inches in stockinette stitch
Instructions:
- Cast On: Cast on 56 stitches.
- Ribbing (Brim): Work in 2×2 ribbing (Knit 2, Purl 2) for 1.5 inches to create a stretchy brim.
- Row 1: K2, P2 across the row.
- Repeat this row until the brim measures 1.5 inches.
- Body of the Hat: Switch to stockinette stitch:
- Row 1 (RS): Knit across.
- Row 2 (WS): Purl across.
- Repeat these two rows until the hat measures 5 inches from the cast-on edge.
- Shaping the Crown (Decrease Rows):
- Row 1: (K6, K2tog) repeat across the row (49 stitches).
- Row 2: Purl.
- Row 3: (K5, K2tog) repeat across the row (42 stitches).
- Row 4: Purl.
- Row 5: (K4, K2tog) repeat across the row (35 stitches).
